Individually Hand Made Heirloom Pieces
As full time professional metal artists we work together, without assistants, using sterling silver, brass, copper and
nickel to produce fine servingware, and now we work in Iron to create trivets and wall decor.
We use traditional silversmithing and shellforming techniques to create each piece of art. From 8’ sheets of fine
metal, Jim makes the initial cuts. These pieces then go to Cecile who drills and cuts each design on the scroll saw
using jeweler’s sawblades for the intricate cuts. Each piece is hammered for strength and beauty; spoons are formed
in a hollow in a wood stump, the reversed over a mushroom stake and hammered to provide a smooth planished surface.
Flat servers are planished on a smooth flat anvil to retain their shape. Cecile heat forges the handles, twists them and
then attaches the handles with rivets.
Each completed piece is a small sensory capsule of our love for metal. We believe art is to be intimately enjoyed,
both as a visual experience and a tactile experience. Our aim is to advance the public’s concept that real art can
be something that is used in everyday life, touched and handled as well as seen.
