" STATEMENT ABOUT WORK "

We use traditional silversmithing and shellforming techniques in the construction
of our work. Using primarily brass, we also work in sterling silver, stainless
steel and have pieces with hardwood handles.
" THE PROCESS "
From 8-foot sheets of brass or copper, Jim makes the outside shape cuts. These pieces then go to Cecile
where each piece is drilled and cut with different inside designs on the scroll saw using jeweler’s saw blades
for the intricate cuts. Next, each pieces is hammered for both strength and beauty. Spoons are formed in a
hollow in a stump, then, as with the flat servers, each is reversed and hammered (plainished) on an anvil to
create the facets that can only be created by hand. Grapevine handles are forged and twisted and then attached
with rivets. Finally, the pieces are polished to a finishing luster. |
